Lavender hydrosol is the aromatic water that remains after the plant matter from the lavender flowers has been steam distilled to create lavender essential oil. Hydrosol is a therapeutic water that retains many of the same properties as essential oil but is very gentle and can be used either pure or diluted on the skin.<\/p>\n

Lavender hydrosol naturally hydrates, tones and refreshes your skin. It is most often used as a facial toner to firm and balance skin tone and can help cool the skin in hot weather or during hot flashes. Especially if it is stored in the refrigerator! It also makes your hair super soft.<\/p>\n

Type of lavender used:<\/strong> The type of lavender used for the distillation of the lavender hydrosol is French lavender, also called fine lavender, true lavender, officinale lavender or Lavandula angustifolia.<\/p>\n

Composition:<\/strong> Lavender *lavandula angustifolia* is composed of linalol, linalyl acetate, terpiene-4, (known for its antiseptic properties) lavandulol, flavonoids, tannins, coumarins (natural aromatic substance)<\/p>\n

Extraction process:<\/strong> Lavender hydrosol is obtained by distillation by steam distillation. This extraction process is a process that dates back centuries. The distillation apparatus we use is a replica of the distillers used in the 17th century. (apart from the thermometer!),<\/p>\n

During distillation, the water vapor charged with aromatic molecules condenses into a liquid which separates into two elements:<\/p>\n

– the water-insoluble essential oil of lavender floats on the upper part,<\/p>\n

– lavender hydrosol, aqueous solution, containing a low concentration of lavender essential oil.<\/p>\n

At Les Jardins, we use spring water and naturally grown lavender, without fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides.<\/p>\n
